Lexington, GA - Alfred (Al) Amandus Johnson, Jr., 80, died Monday, October 10, 2005.
A native of Kinard, SC, Mr. Johnson was a son of the late Alfred Amandus Johnson, Sr. and Addie Delphia Wehunt. Al graduated from Clinton High School, Clinton, SC. He served in the US Navy, 1st Beach Battalion during World War II in the Atlantic and Pacific, and was wounded twice.
He was a member of the Lexington Baptist Church where for several years he taught the boys youth group. He established the Lexington Baptist Youth Fund for underprivileged children.
He was owner of Johnson Ford Sales in Crawford and Greensboro for forty-two years. He was the "President's Award" winner for eight years.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-nine years, Mary Nations Johnson; a son and daughter-in-law, Darryl and Diane Johnson of Watkinsville, GA; two daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn and Thomas Vidmar of Crawford, GA and Madelyn and Kurt McKinnon of Hudson, FL; six grandchildren, Nikki Johnson Duffell, Natalie Johnson, Alexander Vidmar, Andrea Vidmar, Jessica McKinnon, Christopher McKinnon; and two great grandchildren, Reese and Wright Duffell; one step-grandson, Josh Goodman; two sisters, Cora Bowers and Josephine Clark.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 12, 2005, at 3:00 PM at Lexington Baptist Church with Rev. Harry Warren officiating. Interment will be in Welcome Avenue Congregational Holiness Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 9:00PM on Tuesday, October 11 at Lord and Stephens, EAST.
