Alexander T. Dillard, 65, drew his last breath on November 15, 2021. A life-long resident of Arnoldsville, GA, Alex was preceded in death by his parents James Osborne Dillard and Ethel Bell Dillard. He was a cattleman and the fifth generation to work the family farm in the Wolfskin Community.
Alex was a graduate of Oglethorpe County High School and Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. He was active in the county, having held leadership positions in the Oglethorpe County Farm Bureau, the Oglethorpe County Cattlemen’s Association, and the Wolfskin Fire Department.
A generous, kind, witty, intelligent man with a steel-trap memory, Alex could do most anything with his hands including construction, electrical, plumbing, woodworking, welding, and engine repair. As a young man, he competed in tractor pulling, building his own tractors. He was named the G.T.P.A. Puller of the Year in 1980. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and attending operatic and theatrical performances. He also made a point to be well-read in politics and world events, although he usually kept his opinions to himself.
Alex, or “Alec” to his family, will be dearly missed by his wife of 27 years, Shirley Brumbaugh Dillard, his siblings Frances Lester (Whit) of Crawford, Elizabeth Smith of Gainesville, Mary Kitchens of Gray, and Joseph “Jed” Dillard (Joan Hare) of Monticello, FL, many cousins, nieces and nephews, and his wife’s family, the Brumbaughs. Shirley is especially grateful to her neighbors, the Randall Andrews Family, for their help in this difficult time.
Alex would be honored to have donations in his memory made to TJ & Friends, a non-profit cancer foundation serving northeast Georgia at www.tjandfriendsfoundation.com, or to another cancer charity of your choice.
A public memorial will be scheduled at a later date.
Lord and Stephens, East is in charge of arrangements.
