Athens, GA - Alan Dorsey Cofer, 58, died August 1, 2005.
A native of Clarke County, he was a son of Frances Hardeman Cofer of Athens and the late Ernest Dorsey Cofer. He was employed with the United States Postal Service for 39 years and was a member and chairman of the deacons of Attica Baptist Church. Mr. Cofer was an avid follower of the University of Georgia Football program, having been a season ticket holder since 1974. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and son.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 3, 2005, at 4:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Winterville with Rev. Shane Moore officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, Jerry Anne S. Rice Cofer; two daughters and sons-in-law, Missy Rice Towns (Jimmy) of Homer and Michele Rice Johnson (Jay) of Statham; sister and brother-in-law, Sharon Cofer Hayes (Terrell) of Winterville; two grandchildren, A. J. Rice and Garet Johnson; two nieces, Amy Hayes Moore (Shane) of Athens and Lori Hayes Cochran (Scott) of Winterville; great nieces, Hailey Moore, Sommer Moore, JennaLace Cochran; great nephew, Cullen Cochran; a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Scott Edwards, Dave Dowdy, Ty Fulcher, James Kinley, Wes Oldham, and Dwight Dye.
Honorary pallbearers will be retired and active postal workers and Sid Harris, Charles Hawkins, Dean Upchurch, and Tommy Johnson.
