William Herbert Logan, 90, of Athens, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 17,2020.
He was born December 15, 1930, to the late Ferd and Lilly Logan. After graduating from Jefferson High School in 1948, he began working as a carpenter. He was a founding partner of Logan Brothers Construction. After 20 years of being a contractor, he owned the Athens distributorship of Overhead Door.
Herbert’s desire was to live a life that would glorify God. He loved the Lord, his family and his church family. He married the late Annie Ruth Logan and treasured their 58 years together.
Along the way, he was elected and served two terms as a Clarke County Commissioner, and he worked as a substitute rural mailman. After retiring, he enjoyed several years of Election Day duties as a Poll Worker.
Herbert was a faithful member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church for 39 years where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. His desire was to help as many Christian ministries as possible. He built or participated in the physical buildings of Athens Bible Mission, Trinity Baptist Church, Oconee Heights Baptist Church, Temple Baptist Church , Mizpah Presbyterian, Whitehall Holiness, and several initial buildings at Athens Christian School. He and his wife enjoyed working with young people, and they were Christian Youth Crusade (CYC) counselors for 20 years and Camp Maranatha supporters for as many years. He was a supporter of Athens Christian School and Prince Avenue Christian School from the year they were founded.
Herbert is survived by his son, Phil Logan of Atlanta; his daughter and son-in-law, Stuart and Robin Logan Gottlieb of Macon; his grandsons and wives, Nolan and Margaret Gottlieb of Athens and Tyler and Jessie Gottlieb of Pinedale, WY, great-grandson Benaiah Gottlieb and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Ferd and Lilly Logan; sisters Alice Tate, Alwayne Wood, Aldine Marden, Annie White and Hilda Bowman; and brothers, Paul, Millard, Horace, and Hubert Logan.
A private funeral service will be held at Lord and Stephens, West with the Rev. Doug Nix and grandson Tyler Gottlieb officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Greg Mashburn, Wester Morgan, Stephen Copeland, Luke Marden, Matt Marden, and Ryan Wills.
